Accessibility
We are continually working to make our website as accessible as possible for all of our visitors.
If you are unable to use part of our site due to an accessibility barrier, please bring it to our attention by calling our office at 510-849-4663 or sending an e-mail to website@borp.org.
Specific steps we have taken to increase the accessibility of the BORP website include:
- Sufficient color contrast between foreground and background colors (in accordance with W3C guidelines) to assist low vision users
- Default font sizes larger than most websites to assist low vision users. Font sizes are also specified in relative units rather than fixed units so that all visitors can make the fonts larger or smaller using their browser settings.
- "Skip navigation" links available to blind and keyboard-only visitors.
- Proper HTML structure to assist blind users in navigating page content.
- Appropriate text equivalents ("alt text") for all images and other non-text elements.
- Large clickable areas on menu items to assist users who have difficulty with fine motor movements
- Background colors for all active links to show keyboard and low vision users where they are on a page
- Proper link naming to assist blind users navigating using "link lists" (No "click here" links!)
- Consistent page layout throughout the site to assist users with cognitive disabilities and those using high magnification software
- No use of flash, and very limited use of JavaScript
- All pages link to our Sitemap to assist visitors with navigation
While all sites have room for improvement when it comes to accessibility (we hope to provide captioned videos soon!), we expect that visitors will find the site highly accessible and welcome suggestions for continued improvement.
