Bay Cruisers - A Strong Showing at Nationals

The Bay Cruisers completed the 2008-2009 basketball season with a strong showing at the National Tournament over the weekend of March 20th.  The JV team finished 3rd in the Country and the Prep team finished 4th in the Country.

The JV team began the tournament with wins over Dallas and Grand Rapids.  The Cruisers fought hard against the Charlotte Rollin’ Bobcats and came back from 13 points down but could not pull out a victory.  The team rebounded to win the 3rd place game 63-59 over the Nebraska Red Dawgs who came into the tournament ranked #1 in the country.  The Cruisers mounted a furious comeback late in the second half and came back from a 14 point deficit to win by four points.

Because of their incredible effort, James Bohnett was named to the 2nd Team All-Tournament team and Jorge Sanchez was named JV Tournament MVP.

The Bay Cruisers Prep team came out of the gate and posted victories against Spokane and Milwaukee which took them into the quarterfinals of the tournament.  Then they secured a victory over a tough Dallas team in what turned out to be the best game of the season for the Prep team.  After a loss in the Semi-finals, the Prep team played in the 3rd place game.  Unfortunately, the team fell just short of pulling out a win and finished the tournament and the season as the #4 team in the country.

BORP is proud of the Bay Cruisers teams and is thrilled to have the # 3  JV team in the country and the # 4 Prep team.

Congratulations to the Bay Cruisers for their dedication and hard work throughout this season!
