ASL Nia

Take a deep breath, release and open yourself to the amazing adventure that Nia can offer!  Nia is a sensory-based movement practice that draws from martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. It empowers people of all shapes and sizes by connecting the body, mind, emotions and spirit.  Nia classes include 55 minutes of movement to diverse music.  Every experience can be adapted to individual needs and abilities. This class will be taught in American Sign Language (ASL) but since it is a dance class anyone is welcome to follow along whether they know ASL or not.

About Instructor India Harville:India Bio Pic 1

For India Harville, dance is life and life is dance.  India has been dancing for over fifteen years and has been teaching dance for the last five years.  India took her first Nia class in 1999 and was immediately hooked.  India has been a certified Nia Instructor since 2010. India has an infectious, bubbly, playful style and an easy manner that make her a fun instructor for beginners and more seasoned dancers. India believes that everyone can dance.  India teaches Nia, Zumba, and Dancing Freedom at various studios throughout the East Bay.

India knows that movement has the potential to be deeply supportive and nourishing to people’s bodies and has used dance as a path for personal growth.  Dance has been an instrumental part of her coping with some serious health challenges.  She became an instructor to help other people discover the many benefits of a regular movement practice.

India holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Health Psychology from New College of Florida and a Master’s Degree in Integrative Medicine from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS). India is originally from Michigan but considers herself a Bay Area convert after living in the area for a decade.
