Program fee: $10. This trip is probably an hour to an hour and a half drive each way, but it’s a real crowd pleaser. The Cosumnes River Preserve in Galt, considered one of the most important ecological areas in California, safeguards the area’s wetlands and neighboring uplands as well as hundreds of plant and bird species. Walking and hiking trails and a wooden boardwalk allow visitors up-close viewing. If you love the sound of geese and cranes, this is the place to be. Lots of birds. I suggest you wear a hat. We’ll most likely stay out until sunset and possibly get food either before or after at Mel’s Mocha and Ice Cream in Walnut Grove.
Trips range in length from 2 – 8 hours.
