On January 7, 2017, Piedmont High School (PHS) and Bay Area Outreach & Recreation Program (BORP) will host the 2016 Piedmont High School Roll ‘n’ Shoot. The event is designed as a 3-on-3 Wheelchair Basketball tournament benefiting the basketball programs at both PHS and BORP.
About the Roll ‘n’ Shoot:
The Roll ‘N Shoot will be comprised of teams of Piedmont High basketball players, parents and coaches, who will ‘sit down’ in wheelchairs to play wheelchair basketball against each other in a 10 team, day-long tournament. Piedmont players will be coached by BORP’s players and coaches.
The money raised will support the basketball programs at PHS and BORP. Both programs use the money raised to purchase and maintain equipment and for travel to competitions. This fundraiser will enable BORP’s players to participate in away-tournaments, which is central to the program because it enables the kids to experience real competitive play. PHS will use the funds for travel and hotel expenses associated with participating in an upcoming tournament in Santa Cruz.
The Roll ‘n’ Shoot also serves as a disability awareness event for the entire community. The participants are playing in wheelchairs throughout the day and are able to see the court through the eyes of a person with a disability.
