Post Stroke Sessions

Regardless of where you’re at in your recovery phase, we’d like to see you for a one-on one-session; our integrative therapy approach will be tailored to you.  Our focus will be movement (any amount), breath awareness, body awareness, Reiki (warm touch), and restorative poses.

Zubin Shroff

Growing up between London and Mumbai, Zubin’s first yoga teacher was his grandfather whom he saw practice daily. Ten years ago, after a near fatal accident, he used his yoga practice, acupuncture and energy work to recover. Zubin is the director of Piedmont Yoga in Oakland and their 300 hour Advanced Teacher Training. He is also a lead trainer in Piedmont Yoga’s Urban Zen Integrative Therapy Program. As director of the studio he spearheads the studio’s outreach program to Oakland schools and healthcare centers and is committed to bringing yoga to underserved communities and to Oakland’s diverse and interwoven population of African-American, Asian-American and Latino communities.

Valerie Jew

After 26 years of teaching Val’s direction has changed to health and wellness as an Urban Zen Integrative Therapist (UZIT). For the last three years of her career as an educator she taught a weekly UZIT class for teachers, nurses, aides, administrative assistants and other employees in the Piedmont Unified School District. In addition she has taught a summer school enrichment class for special needs children exposing them to restorative poses, modified yoga movements, aromatherapy and Reiki. Most recently her endeavor of continuing the Urban Zen work in the schools was launched in the Oakland public schools supported by a Kaiser grant. Val coaches and assists in the UZIT accelerated training to encourage others to serve the community at large.
