You will be learning movements and enjoying music from around the world. Some of the styles will include (but will not be limited to): salsa, cha cha, merengue, swing, African, Brazilian samba, “old school” funk, disco and more! In every class, we’ll have time for “free style”, and an opportunity to learn from one another. This is a safe class, appropriate for everyone, regardless of your ability. We will dance for enjoyment, vitality, musical joy and for healthy mind and bodies.
ABOUT INSTRUCTOR, LEIA CASH:
I’ve been dancing since I was three years old. My background in ballet and modern dance, led to an interest in Latin dance: rumba, salsa, samba, cha cha and merengue. I was a member of the San Francisco samba dance troupe, Samba do Coracao, and participated in many Carnaval parades in San Francisco. I have studied dance in the US, Europe and in Cuba.
My love of salsa extends from dancing to playing music with friends and family. I play congas and have studied with bay area teachers.
Most recently, I teach dance with the non-profit organization, Dancin Power. I currently teach at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, Oakland.
I’m so excited to be teaching at BORP because it reaches out to MY community here in the east bay and welcomes everybody regardless of what kind of body and abilities they have. The opportunity to dance and move with you is so close to my heart. I can’t wait to meet you!
