Bay Area Outreach and Recreation Program Adventures and Outings Calendar
Note: Trips range in length from 2-8 hours. For more information call Lori Gray at 510-843-4398 Tuesdays & Thursdays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. PST.
PLEASE NOTE: *This list is a work-in-progress; trips are often added or sometimes changed. Please note it is important that you attend the outings that you sign up for. Once we schedule an outing, we are unable to cancel the driver once they have been scheduled.
Note for any outdoor outing, I will come up with a rain plan and let folks know what that’s going to be. Participants are responsible for getting themselves to and from the pickup points independently. Every attempt will be made to meet paratransit pickup times, however, often due to traffic and other circumstances beyond our control, we may get back later and folks will have to find their own way home.
Volunteers are needed to make BORP trips possible. We do have outings where volunteer support is limited so I cannot guarantee a one to one ratio of volunteer-to-participant. Participants must be able to follow other participants or independently navigate for themselves.
Just follow two easy steps:
- Call the BORP office for trip details and availability at 510-849-4663, ext.1380 for the recorded line. Or call BORP Adventures and Outings coordinator, Lori Gray at 510-843-4398, Tuesdays and Thursdays (AFTER 10 am ONLY, please).
- Mail in fees (note that your space is not confirmed until payment is received.)
We accept checks or money orders for advanced registration. Please make checks payable to BORP and note the trip name and date(s) on the check. Mail payment to:
Adventures and Outings

Please note: We now have Rachel at the front desk. She’s generally in the office in the afternoon. At this time we are still not ready to take credit card payments, because the credit card companies are charging an extra fee and taking it out of the program fee. If possible, when we take credit card payments again, we will be adding a processing fee per transaction. We have to figure out what that fee would be. I will keep you posted on changes. So for the time being, we’re still accepting checks.
Please note, the BORP office suite number has been changed from #155 to #200. Everything else is the same.
We want you to participate in BORP outings. Call us and we can talk about payment plans or scholarships.
For cancellation and refund policies for outings and adventure programs, call Lori Gray or the BORP Office.
Full refunds are given only if we must cancel an outing. In the event of illness or other emergencies, please call the specified trip leader or outings and adventures coordinator. Credit may be possible.
BORP trips are possible because of dedicated people who generously donate their time and energy. You too can be one of these lovely people. Sighted guides are especially needed for hikes and riding tandem bikes. Call the office for more information.
About BORP trips:
We believe that everyone should have access to the unique challenges that outdoor recreation provides. We make every effort to accommodate your needs, including providing transportation and volunteer support. BORP plans trips for a wide spectrum of abilities, including wheelchair users, slow walkers and people with visual impairments. BORP however, does not provide attendants on trips, but will offer discounted trip fees for caregivers when possible. Family and friends are welcome on all of our trips – just let us know who is coming and their needs.
BORP trips operate on two basic tenets: One, A successful trip requires group participation, and two, a little dirt is good for the soul. The line between volunteer and participant is often blurred, as we all share responsibility for the group’s well-being. However, every person is responsible for setting their own boundaries and limitations. Safety is our first priority on all BORP outings and events.
Winter schedules often include an exciting variety of musicals that offer wheelchair seating, audio, description and ASL interpretation.
Many BORP trips fill quickly, so we urge you to register early.
