Bay Area Classes

BORP hosts regular indoor and outdoor fitness classes around the Bay Area. We also offer workshops and clinics in activities like boxing and dance. Led by experienced instructors, classes provide a fun and challenging workout and are a great way to meet people in your community.

BORP Fitness Center

The BORP fitness center in Berkeley features open gym hours and has a range of adaptive exercise equipment including a stationary handcycle, a rowing machine, a VitaGlide, a SkiErg, as well as weights and bands.

Class Fees & Studio Rental

Unless otherwise stated, BORP in-person classes are suggested donation of $11 per class; 10-class passes are available for $100. Seniors 55 and older pay $8 per class, or $70 for a 10-class pass. Passes can be used for any class and are valid for one year. All classes are free to veterans. No one turned away for lack of funds, scholarships available.” Class Donations Accepted Here

Tai Chi

Instructor: Hursey Baker

The purpose of this meditative movement class is to transition through a series of gentle, health-giving exercises in a relaxed and joyous environment. Tai Chi combines the fluidity of dance with energetic movements that tone and the body and Improve circulation, balance and posture. The mind is focused and results include a general sense of well being as the ”chi,” or life force, is strengthened. A sampling of Qigong and Rosen Method movement exercises are included. The course is open to all ages and varying abilities.

Gentle Stretch and Movement

The Arthritis Exercise Class provides gentle movement and strengthening for people with disabilities and/or joint disease. Classes will include warm-up, strengthening, stretching, cardio, and relaxation segments. Everyone is welcome.

Circuit Training/Open Gym

Utilize BORP’s fitness equipment to get your body moving. Whether your goal is increased strength, stamina, functional fitness or all the above, David will help you achieve it! David works with each participant to orient them to the equipment with the ultimate goal that they become self-sufficient or need minimal assistance to get set up. We have several machines, weights, TRX Suspension Training system as well as weights and bands.

Everyone is welcome to come use the equipment at BORP’s Fitness Studio. This is not an instructor led class. If you are not able to use the equipment independently you may bring someone to assist. Participants must use masks and be vaccinated. Limited to eight participants. Please sign up so you can be notified of schedule changes

Join Jorge for a fun and inclusive workout at the Ed Roberts Campus in Berkeley. We will be working out on the outside deck, using innovative adaptive equipment designed to work for you. These courses are a great way to stay active and socialize while being outside. All fitness levels are welcome.

Helpful Tips

  • Please arrive on time. Some classes do not allow latecomers past five minutes.
  • If you are a new participant, please arrive 10 minutes early to meet with the instructor.
  • All participants (including assistants) must have a completed BORP registration and waiver.
  • Equipment will be provided.
  • Bring your own water and towel.
  • Please do not wear any perfumes or scents.
  • If you need an assistant to complete the exercises, they may join the class.
  • Classes are subject to change at any time. Please register for class to receive updates and cancellations.
  • Participants must be vaccinated and wear masks.
COVID Safety! Strict COVID guidelines will be followed, masks are required.
