BORP wheelchair rugby team takes bronze at the national championship

The BORP-supported High Fives wheelchair ruby team placed third in Division II of the US Wheelchair Rugby Association National Championship. Eighteen teams traveled from around the country to compete near Tampa, FL on the first weekend of May. The High Fives entered Division II as the highest seed and easily beat the three lower-seeded teams without trouble. After an unfortunate technical foul on their main ball handler, the High Fives found themselves tied with the Northeast Passage Wildcats and entered overtime. The High Fives ended up losing at the buzzer by a single point but gave the crowd one of the best spectator games of the season. After one more close loss to a team they had beaten twice during the regular season, the High Fives were scheduled for the third-place final game against the championship host team. The High Fives finished confidently in third and took home bronze medals. They were gratified to have moved up significantly in the overall rankings from the previous year when they placed second in Division III. The team’s third-place finisher can be viewed here.
