Frequently Asked Questions

Where does the Expo take place, and when?

Across three Berkeley locations: James Kenney Community Center (10 AM – 3 PM, main hub), the BORP Adaptive Cycling Center (10 AM – 1 PM), and Berkeley Ironworks (12 – 3 PM). A free accessible shuttle connects all three.

What's the after-party?

Stay at James Kenney from 3:30 – 5:30 PM for a community celebration marking 50 years of BORP, open to all Expo attendees.

Do I need to register in advance?

Registration is free and strongly encouraged so we can plan coaching and equipment. It's required for transportation and rock climbing. Haven't registered? You can fill out a short form when you arrive.

Is transportation provided?

Yes. A free accessible shuttle with a lift runs from North Berkeley BART to all three sites. Space is limited, so email transportation@borp.org ahead of time to reserve a spot.

What if I'm blind or low-vision?

Goalball is played entirely by sound with eyeshades for all players. Climbing, cycling, and kayaking all offer sighted guides or tandem/double setups.

What if I have a lower-limb impairment?

Wheelchair basketball, pickleball with adaptive rules, cycling on recumbent trikes and handcycles, and kayaking with transfer support are all great starting points.

What if I have impairment in all four limbs?

Wheelchair rugby and power soccer are built around power-chair and high-support athletes. Cycling, kayaking, and climbing all offer adaptive equipment and transfer assistance.

Can I attend if I've never tried adaptive sports before, or don't have a disability?

Absolutely. The Expo is designed for first-timers, and family, friends, and community members are welcome to join in or observe.

Will there be food?

A food truck will be on-site for purchase, with free snacks and water refill stations available throughout the day.
