* Classes are primarily for participants who are blind or visually impaired, but all are welcome!

You can sign up for as many classes as you’d like to participate in. But please do not share the sign-up links with anyone else. These classes are exclusive to participants in the Revolution 2020. 

If you need ASL interpretation or other accommodations to participate in virtual activities or classes, you must let us know by no later than Monday, September 21. Please do so by emailing elaine@borp.org

11:00 am: Rumba 80’s Theme

Description: Rumba with Tina is an upbeat and incredibly fun seated dance workout class for all ages and abilities! (A great class for everyone, including those who are blind or visually impaired.) In this class, we’ll go back in time to the 80’s. Dress up in your 80’s outfit and come jam to the awesome music of this decade!

11:00 am: Virtual Climb through Tuolumne Meadows*

Join Ryan Hussey on an epic adventure in Tuolumne Meadows, where you will virtually rope up for the three most famous peaks of Yosemite’s high country: Tenaya Peak, Matthes Crest, and Cathedral Peak; AKA “The Tuolumne Triple Crown.” Ryan isn’t always the best at directions, so bundle up and prepare to take the path less traveled. This activity is suitable for everyone, including people who are blind or visually impaired.

12:30 pm: Adaptive Chair Yoga with Nancy Yates

Description: Learn new ways to feel better, including stretching, long easeful movements with conscious breathing, sensory awareness and YES laughing and giggling, chanting and meditation. All movements are designed and sequenced to reduce joint discomfort, stiffness, stress and fatigue, and increase resilience, flexibility and strength. This class is for everyone interested in feeling better including veterans, seniors, blind and visually impaired!

Register for Adaptive Chair Yoga

2:00 pm: Kimm Ropicky Yoga for Everyone, with focus on Blind & Visually Impaired*

Description: This class is sequenced and described for those with visual impairments in mind, but can be practiced by anyone, including any experience level, body, and age. The class will start with a brief meditation and there will be ample time between poses (asanas) so you can mindfully and safely move into the next pose. Verbal cueing is offered within each asana to give you a sense of basic alignment and, for those more advanced, time to go deeper into your experience within. Props Recommended (not required) for this class: Yoga mat, 2 Yoga blocks or Sturdy, non-sliding chair, Throw blanket and/or pillow, and Strap or Belt. *Class is primarily for participants who are blind or visually impaired, but all are welcome!

3:30 pm: Open Level Contemporary Dance with Carina

Description: Whether you have years of dance experience or none at all, this class if for you! Simply follow along as we warm up our bodies and also put together simple choreography. Suggestions will be made on how to adapt movements for your comfort level. We will also explore ways to improve our mind-body connections through coordination and repetition. This class is appropriate for blind and visually impaired students with some experience in dance.

Description: This fun, high-energy seated dance class taught by JanpiStar, introduces easy-to-follow choreography from a seated position done to Latin & Club dance music. Class is geared towards upper body and core strengthening. Get ready to move!

12:30 pm: Dark Room Ballet with Krishna Christine Washburn*

Dark Room Ballet is offering a dance toolbox workshop to BORP, using authentic, traditional ballet movements and positions geared specifically to the educational needs of a visually impaired or blind dancer. The skills shared include finding internal balance, increasing foot sensitivity, floor-based orientation maintenance, and artistic expression using music and movement. This is a fully described workshop; no prior knowledge about dance or ballet is required. Learn to trust your own interpretation of movement and direction! Taught by blind professional dancer, Krishna Washburn (Infinity Dance Theater, thinkdance, Heidi Latsky Dance, marked dance project). *Class is primarily for participants who are blind or visually impaired, but all are welcome!

2:00 pm: Inclusive Functional Strength Training

Trainer Rachel Kahn leads this 45-minute intermediate level class that includes a stretching and mobility warm-up, followed by integrative strength training. This class can be performed seated or standing with no equipment, or with home equipment including towels, soup cans, dumbbells, resistance bands, filled water bottles, medicine balls or other kinds of balls. (This class is suitable for blind or visual impaired athletes with some experience.)

3:30 pm: Tai Chi with Ralf

Join Master Ralf for a gentle Sun style Tai Chi set. This class is open to all levels and abilities. This Tai Chi system improves strength, flexibility, coordination, balance, reduces stress, develops inner strength and equanimity!

11:00 am: Rumba Halloween

Rumba with Tina is an upbeat and incredibly fun seated dance workout class for all ages and abilities! (A great class for everyone, including those who are blind or visually impaired.) In this class, let’s dress up in–scary, cute or just crazy and dance to some Halloween themed songs. There’ll be a costume contest and at least three prizes will be given out!

12:30 pm: Mindful Movement

Trainer Rachel Kahn will lead you through this low impact seated class. Designed to improve everyday movement, this class will incorporate visual and vestibular training, joint mobilization, stretching, strengthening and body alignment. Great for all levels of fitness! (Suitable for low vision or blind participants).

2:00 pm: Brent Kobs Inclusive Fitness

Brent Kobs of Adaptive Fit provides an online functional fitness class designed to include people with disabilities. It is a circuit-style workout that challenges both strength and cardiovascular fitness. The exercises are scaled or substituted to fit a broad spectrum of ability levels. In this class, you will perform exercises that will help improve your balance, transfers, ambulation, and athletic performance. Adaptive Fit is makes fitness accessible to all.

2:00 pm: Multi-Sensory Outing with Lori

Enjoy an all day multi-sensory outing with Lori. We’ll start at dawn in a forest exploring the trees and listening to the crickets and birds as they begin their day. We will hike through a meadow along a stream enjoying the wildflowers, birds and butterflies, and the continue on to a mountain lake for lunch swimming and fishing. Following that, we’ll head to the Cosumnes River Preserve in the Delta where we will listen to the sandhill cranes and other birds as they fly off to roost at sunset. After that, we’ll follow the Delta to the coast and end our day with a full moon trip to the Limantour Trail at Point Reyes. Finally, we’ll take a wheelchair-accessible carriage ride with Access Adventures. This activity is suitable for everyone, including people who are blind or visually impaired.

Join Conner Lundius of the world-famous Rollettes Wheelchair Dance Team for a high-energy dance class. A fun and exhilarating way to end your Revolution 2020 activities!
