The event will be held at King Middle School from 10AM to 2PM and will showcase BORP’s youth programs such as wheelchair basketball, cycling, power soccer, and track. This is a great opportunity to check out our programs while also helping to educate other kids, families, and education professionals about adaptive sports.

On Saturday, February 27, 2016 BORP will host the 13th Annual Poker Slam at the Ed Roberts Campus, 3075 Adeline St., Berkeley. The Poker Slam is a fund-raising “Texas Hold’ em” tournament to support the BORP Power Soccer Program.
BORP’s Power Soccer Program started in 1988 and was the first power soccer program in the USA. During that time we have provided hundreds of powerchair users with opportunities to participate, compete and excel as athletes.
A highlight of 2015 was being featured in a GoPro Youtube video! To learn more about BORP Power Soccer, view the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5A12baiB9s
We invite you to support BORP Power Soccer by registering to play in the Poker Slam and/or by making a tax-deductible donation of money or prizes (for the poker tournament or the raffle). All the money that is raised is used to help our athletes with the considerable equipment and travel expenses of participation.
Food and nonalcoholic drink are included in the ticket purchase. There will be a cash bar and raffle tickets for sale as well.
The top prize for this year’s Poker Slam winner is two premium Giants tickets to a 2016 game!
See you at the Slam!

Berkeley, CA – Bay Area Outreach & Recreation Program (BORP), in conjunction with U.S. Paralympics, a division of the United States Olympic Committee, is hosting a Gateway to Gold talent identification event October 17, 2015 at the University of California Berkeley’s Recreational Sports Facility. The event is designed to discover athletes with physical and visual impairments who have athletic talent and could compete for Team USA at a future Paralympic Games.
The Gateway to Gold is the first step toward the podium for individuals with physical disabilities and visual impairments across the Western region of the US. Gateway to Gold participants will go through sport specific tests and evaluations to determine if they are ready for the next level of opportunity in Paralympic sport.
The program is sponsored by BP, which has contributed significant funding and support at the community level since the inception of the Gateway to Gold program in 2013. BP has been a sponsor of U.S. Paralympics for more than five years and continues its support today by contributing funding for grassroots adaptive sports programs in communities around the U.S.
